Michigan on Lockdown

Ah yes, the making of the horseradish.

Well good ole Gretch, the gov, shut the state down today. Because people are not taking this seriously. She knows this because she saw pics of kids on beaches in Florida. No wait, it gets better. And these kids that don't take this seriously are getting sick more here--maybe Michigan maybe not she wasn't clear--because of the vaping. Yep, vaping and beaches is why Michigan needs to go on lockdown. I think it really may be because she really wants to be Joe's running mate.

We are gonna try a Walgreens order for mom but I have little hope there. I tried yesterday for a few things and they are just not available. No such stuff in the stores. Does not matter what Gretch, Trump and everybody says it is just not available.

Mom says to tell Gretch they did shut the beaches and the kids won't go home. That is a tough one. Have the National Guard haul them out, not a good look on the TV.

It snowed today, just enough to call it snow. Then back up to 57 on Wednesday.

At 5:30 Trump will be on TV with his report and everyone will be watching Dr. Fauci for his reactions. He is the big news, him and his reactions. Great TV.

Comcast is worse than ever

The horseradish is almost ready to be dug up. This stuff is great, no muss and no fuss and great food.

So Comcast is once again the nemesis from Hades and Big Daddy has a Customer Service Rep on the phone trying to help him fix the fact that we cannot turn on our TV when she breaks down and confesses, she has to wait for her husband to come home and fix the TV. WTF. Let me say that one more time. WTF. You are the person on the phone telling us how to fix the TV and you cannot fix your own shit?

Without your husband who does not work for Comcast?

Today BD spent some time on the phone with Comcast and they are sending all new boxes and remotes, these are the new ones that are not messed up. There is also a 39.00 installation fee even though BD is installing them. Thieving bastards. The reason the guy last week that came out here and worked his ass off did not do this . . .is because . . . the new superior equipment is not at the Comcast Service Centers, it is only available from the magic Comcast person that you will probably never get on the phone. This is why I drink lots of wine some days.

On a sober note, I Ubered a friend on Sunday morning and found something new in Macomb county. Round-a-bouts. I did not like them in England and I do not like them now. There is no rhyme nor reason for how they work. At least in England there were signs giving you a clue where the turn offs might take you.

The Uber thing is working out well for now, Monday I only took one ride, to the airport-nice guy going to Seattle. Turned the app off when I left him as it is not acceptable here to operate at DTW and when I was thinking to turn it back on I had to pee. Enough driving for that day.

The Italians were here today to do the masonry and I must go out and check. See ya later.

Our Traditions

This was in Big Daddy's parking lot at work. In the middle of the city.

Yes, it is that time of year again, horseradish harvesting. BD loves his horseradish. In honor of the crop we are having a standing rib roast for dinner. With Yorkshire pudding. Delish.

Today we will have the annual fight over when it is time to put the wicker furniture away. It is past time and it will be done today.

This is gonna be a crazy week, work is already crazy and Big Daddy made the correct and manly decision to hire the painter I found. He is a professional painter and takes on side jobs. He was recommended by my manicurist who has known him for years. He paints for her and she is one picky bitch.

Painter will make a few visits for prep work during the week and paint the dining room, kitchen and back entry on the weekend.

I wanted a bakers rack for the spot we removed the counter top "breakfast nook". I finally admitted what I really need is a hall tree with a seat. We don't wear our work shoes in the house, where we walk is sometimes really nasty, and I am too old to dance around on one foot at a time. Now we can come in and sit down and take off our shoes.

That is when I noticed that the light fixtures, original to our move in over twenty years seemed ugly and dated. And the Martha Stewart type back door curtain looked as old as Martha.

So BD got a deal on lights, he is hanging them and taking down the back door curtain rod, and I will post pics when it is done. Kinda a before and after for the Punkin Head.

The Hidden Garden

I have 2, this is the first one where my pepper plants are residing. They are the only food I grow except herbs and horseradish. The horseradish is in the second hidden garden. Big Daddy is mulching and the rains are making my garden grow. It has been unseasonably cold-this morning when I left for work it was 57 degrees. Jacket weather.

I am having the worst case of Rosacea ever, it has been a month since my medical scare. That is me, I am your woman in a crisis-but a month later I am something frightful.

OOps, just noticed those weeds in the grass.

The kids are on a camping vacation and now headed to Mt. Ranier, on their way back home. Punkin Head said they are trying to get great pictures.

I have been training a new person the past couple weeks. She is bright, inquisitive and a charmer-I think she will do great. She has never done this work before so some of the particulars will be harder to learn, like reading blueprints and such, but she will be working the off shifts where that is not quite as important. I am calling her trained as of today--I am not being paid to train her so I think she is just fine. And can call the boss if she has questions.

The neighbors are all fine, The Slavs are proudly showing off the vineyard, the tat lady next door is growing some beautiful yellow lilys I can see from my family room, the orange cat from corner survived-I saw him this morning licking his paws. Big Daddy thinks the Flower Lady came home from rehab, but I have not seen her.

More to report this weekend, it seems I can only manage a couple of posts a week right now, work is just too busy.

Harvesting the back 40

Don't say it.

Freshly harvested horseradish

No matter where we go we always have a back 40. In China both the front and back balcony served as our garden plots. We grew herbs and peppers and lots of flowers that died pretty quick.

Now that we are back at home and trying to get the garden and landscaping back under control  we have made huge efforts to mulch. This weekend during the mulching we noted the horseradish leaves had heaved over and given in to the cold and frost. That means we can dig up the roots. Hurray. Not really, have you ever really smelled this stuff.

The first year Big Daddy planted the horseradish is the year he was exiled to China before the hard frost came. We had never harvested or worked with this stuff before.

We are making prepared horseradish. It makes your entire house smell and it makes your eyes burn. It is some nasty stuff. Big Daddy added some vinegar, salt and sugar in the food processor and we have something that is excellent. Note: Some people use the old fashioned grinder outside for this reason, but the smell does not last that long.

We ended up with about a quart of finished product. And it is some hot stuff.
