Eastern Market adventures

There was a really great pepper vendor.

We have enough fruit and veggies for the year, too bad they do not keep. We hauled our butts down to the market Saturday morning and loaded up. I also got potatoes and onions for the pantry. Big Daddy roasted whole beets last night and I made this onion concoction to keep in the fridge to cook with and roasted potatoes and tomatoes for use next week. I also made the garbage soup.

I was standing around waiting for BD when the smell of peaches was overwhelming. I looked over and the peaches were calling my name, when you can smell them you know they are gonna be wonderful. This lady walked up and asked if they were from Michigan and walked away. No, they were from South Carolina and the best.

I am on a new diet/lifestyle plan as my cholesterol is high and I refuse to take statins. So bye bye eggs, red meat and cheese and hello fruits and veggies. I am also taking Questran which is a godsend for the IBS, so far no more Immodium. What a nice side-effect. So far I have lost 5 pounds so I cannot bitch. And I am allowing a weekly cheat so I don't go crazy. I finally had to admit the Atkins wasn't gonna do it and I was eating too much junk. Junk as in cookies, they are my downfall.

I did cheat on vacation, although I froze my Biscoff for emergency rations. But howdoyou not have fried chicken and waffles and that hanger steak was fabulous.

We have figured out Thanksgiving. We are staying home and going to Jersey Boys at the Fisher. We have not been to the theater in a long time and I am excited. We can cook here, decide on Christmas decor, visit MIL and be quiet. Loved the movie and the CD so I hope I am not disappointed.

I also found the ornamental kale at the market to spruce up the garden and 2 house plants, a jade and a prayer plant.

God, this all sounds boring.

Work was exciting, we had a repeat quality issue that exploded with people screaming on conference calls and Mexicans trying to wiggle out of it. Mexicans are not good at wiggling. I had to back up and punt to keep the line running and my asshole boss was giving me instructions from afar. Shit like you need to document this and that so that we may be able to  . . blah . . blah. That is his new thing . . spaces and periods. And stealing what he thinks are hot phrases. He is now calling all Mexicans "friends" in a very condescending way. What an asshat. And my Mexicans, well they can't make a taco.

Life goes on.

I should have taken pictures

Don't know what it is but Big Daddy loves it.

For some reason I have decided to change things up a bit. Last Saturday, which is also known as no makeup weekend, I went to breakfast with BD at 7:30 in the morning. It was a struggle as my IBS was threatening but we made it okay.

This morning I had a pedicure scheduled and then at a different salon a manicure, so we left the house at the crack of dawn to get to Eastern Market to shop for plants. We did save a bundle, I bought perennials of a decent size for 6 bucks each. We got a limelight hydrangea, Russian sage, foxglove, white daisies, dahlias and columbine. Oh yes, and fairy flowers. And a flat of Caladium for 25 dollars and 2 clematis and something called a bird of paradise. We could barely fit the radio flyer and the roller cart back in the car.

It was crowded by 8  that we had to leave. I also got Mt. Rainier cherries for 7 bucks for 2 pounds and blackberries for 1 buck a box.

Now we have to plant and mulch.

Oh and Punkin Head is wanted for an all expense paid interview for this new job. All is well.

Random Stuff

Dream a little dream

So this week was a week of randomness and to a person who does not appreciate change it became a debacle. I had to cancel my hair appointment on Saturday as on the way there the IBS reared its ugly head and I had to head straight home. So on Wednesday my gal worked me in at five, mixed and put on my  color-I sneaked out the back door and Big Daddy paid. While I was getting the color he went next door to Hydrangea Cafe and ordered us the best take out dinner. When I got home and at the required thirty minute mark I washed the tint out of my hair at the kitchen sink. Saved 60 dollars and 1 and 1/2 hours.

The roofer still has not made it to my house for the roofing leak on Monday night. Rat Fucker.

Had a very hard time getting to work on Wednesday and an even harder time getting home on Thursday. Our roads were shit before this happened and now I can't begin to calculate the cost to fix the grid. This is gonna get ugly this winter.

Just an observation-because it is still en vogue not to wear stockings and to bare your legs, well not everyone should follow that fashion. Some thin white women look like hell with bare legs. IF you are too lazy to take of your legs, wear stockings or were just born with ugly legs, please wear pants. It is quite distracting to see this look in a work environment. Especially with cheap and worn down shoes. Shoe polish is not that expensive.

I ordered a bunch of books from Amazon, here is how that works-I make a list and when I am ready I put the list in the cart. Then BD tries to find the best deal on the books and we get what we get when we get it. The first to arrive is Happy Times by Lee Radziwell. A picture book with narrative and so far in it is entertaining. I wish I could only recall the happy times.

BD went to Eastern Market this morning and came home with beets to roast, glads, duck and blackberries and raspberries. Better than my dinner idea for last night. It was a disaster of epic proportion.

I am having a weird spiritual thing happening and I will share it when I figure it out.

If at first you don't succeed

Eastern Market
Big Daddy got ferns for the outside

At the end of the month the local fruits and vegetables will be available and all the plants and flowers at deep discounts. One year BD bought Palm trees for the patio, they had them this year but they were 25 bucks apiece. Not even if I am working would I pay that.

I have another job interview tomorrow. That is all I am saying on that subject. Punkin Head got a call on another job too.

Freedom

We are now Ford people. This is my new ride.

It is almost impossible to drive any non-union car in Detroit. It just makes life difficult. I drove Saabs for years and I did take some guff and damage but it was worth it to drive down Lakeshore with the top down. Now we are Ford people as they did not get caught up in that financial mess, no Government Motors or Tony's Transportation for us. And it has heated seats. I loved my Ford Edge but at 19 MPG and gasoline out of control I can't take that bet again. I would not be surprised if they start rationing gas again.

I went to the hairdresser yesterday and was told I was too blond. I did not think that was possible.

Punkin Head came for dinner, his request was burgers and spinach. I taught Big Daddy how to do a mean sauteed spinach and it cracks me up that Punkin Head loves it. He was the pickiest eater as a child and hated both of those items.

Just a few weeks and Eastern Market has the crazy flower sales, y'all will love pictures of that place, every Saturday it is a madhouse and BD likes to get there a 6 AM to get a parking space. So I better get busy outside. And we have to find the pull cart and radio flyer and clean them up.
